Yesterday, a huge landslide consumed the path that leads to the Taschachhaus, in Pitztal, a picturesque valley in Tyrol, Austria.
The slide took place prior to the opening of the hut, scheduled for June 15. The path affected is the Fuldaer Höhenweg, I believe along the vertigo inducing cliff section where the path is secured by chains and metal spikes driven in to the rock.
I introduced Eileen to this trail on our honeymoon. She knew right away which path I was referring to when I told her about the landslide this morning! An early indicator in our relationship of the adventures to come is perhaps the way to best spin it.
Anyway, I’m aware of this slide because I’m planning a hut to hut hike in Pitztal next year and I’ve been monitoring those very few huts on our itinerary that have Facebook pages, Taschachhaus, being one of them.
